What Is GMP Mastery™?GMP Mastery™ is the ongoing journey of consistently doing the right things, right, in order to master day to day performance and realize exceptional and sustainable results. In his book Mastery: The Keys To Success and Long-Term Fulfillment, George Leonard discusses mastery in the following way:
GMP Mastery™, therefore, is not geared only for geniuses, or top level executives. GMP Mastery is available to anyone who is willing to invest in their own growth, and improve their ability to Manage, Target, and Lead. These are skills all workers need to develop, regardless of their official title. Managing is not limited to those with the title "Manager." Targeting possibilities for improvement and innovation is everyone's job, and leading is not restricted to top level executives. Managing consists of assessing known facts, and planning an effective way forward, and checking to make sure that things are actually happening the way they are supposed to. Managing ensures that we "Do Things Right." Everyone is responsible for managing their own performance. Some people have additional management responsibilities. Targeting possibilities to improve and innovate can and should be done at all levels of an organization. Everyone should regularly ask themselves, "How can I do better, be better, and be different?" True targeting begins with an audit (either formal or informal,) which assesses strengths and weaknesses. Based on the information gained in the auditing processes, we can use critical and creative thinking skills to plan projects to improve and innovate. Some projects may be small and manageable, while others may be larger and require the assistance of a coach. Leading is the process by which a person assesses an ambiguous reality (without the luxury of enough good data) and makes decisions about future direction. While top executives are often ultimately responsible for leading an organization, everyone is responsible for providing input to those leaders to help them understand all the different influences and ideas that impact different parts of the organization. Leading requires us to look to the future, and prepare the best we can. It helps us "Do the Right Things" to ensure future success. By focusing on these skills, GMP Mastery™ helps ensure that everyone is consistently doing the right things, right. However, the path to GMP Mastery™ is often characterized by non-linear progress. We find that people often begin the cycle, make progress, and then hit a plateau. Plateaus are a normal part of the GMP Mastery™ process. Taking a big step forward can cause disruption in the work of an organization.
